Anchorage Police Department K9 dog earned its kibble on March 10.

That’s when Anchorage Police Department received a report of a burglary in progress at a residence on Kalmia Drive in Anchorage.

Residents inside the home retreated to the basement and reported to police that they could hear footsteps and people talking upstairs.

Police responded to the scene and discovered no other occupants in the home other than the residents.

An unattended stolen vehicle was discovered by police nearby.

A K9 track was launched and K9 Aerie located a male subject hiding inside a nearby culvert about a half mile from the residence.

A preliminary investigation by police determined that the male hiding in the culvert was the burglary suspect.

Police arrested and charged 31-year-old Joseph Belmont with burglary in the first degree, two counts of criminal mischief in the third degree, theft in the second degree and vehicle theft in the first degree.

A preliminary investigation by police revealed that Belmont had burglarized the home on Kalmia Drive and attempted to break into another home located on Montagne Circle, not too far from where the suspect was discovered hiding in the culvert.
