Runners excel at Anchorage Invite Track Meet
Chugiak girls, second, boys, fourth
The Chugiak boys and girls track teams make good showings during a showcase meet held at Dimond High Friday and Saturday. The venue provided athletes an opportunity to race on the same track used for this season’s Region and State events, to be held May 15-16 and May 23-24, respectively.
Eagle River placed seventh on the girls’ side, eighth on the boys.
Top local performances included Eagle River senior Ed Hall, first, in shot put, second in discus; Ty Jordan, first in 1,600m, Chugiak; Dillon Pratt, second in 100m, Chugiak; Jordan and freshman teammate John Weaver were fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 800m; Eagle River’s Andersen third in the high jump; with the Wolves’ relay teams second in the 400m, fourth in the 800m, and sixth in the 1,600m. Chugiak’s 3,200m relay team placed third.
On the women’s side, top local finishes included Vanessa Aniteye and Nikki Boggs, of Chugiak and Eagle River, respectively, placing second and third in the 400m; the Wolves’ Jordyn Bruce, second in the 300m hurdles, fifth in 400m; Eagle River’s Kaitlyn Maker and Emma Tvelia, fifth and seventh, in the 800m; Eagle River’s Peyton Young, third in the 1,600m; Hannah Babin, of Chugiak, third in the 300m hurdles, fourth in the 100m hurdles; Chugiak’s Samantha Cooper was third in the long jump; with Mustang teammates Paige Nelson and Kassidy Murfin, third and fourth, in the triple jump. Kelly McBryde placed sixth in the 300m hurdles.
Among the girls’ relay results, Chugiak placed first in the 400m, second in the 800m, with Eagle River High reigning supreme in the 1,600m event.
