Chugiak softball flies past Eagle River

Regular season concludes Saturday

Chugiak couldn’t have started off any better against Eagle River on Saturday, May 11.

The Mustangs’ Rachel Gregg drilled a home run on the game’s first pitch to help Chugiak softball to an 8-1 win over the Wolves.

Carly Metcalf was the winning pitcher for Chugiak.

Earlier on Saturday, Chugiak beat Dimond 5-3. Katy Bakker earned the win for the Mustangs.

Eagle River started its Saturday with a 17-4 loss to nonconference Soldotna.

Chugiak played Bartlett and West on Wednesday, May 15, but scores were not available before the Star went to press. Both Chugiak and Eagle River end the regular season on the road. The Mustangs will play four games at Fairbanks on Friday and Saturday, May 17-18, while the Wolves travel to Kodiak the same days.

The Cook Inlet Conference tournament will be held May 21-25 at Albrecht Fields.

 

Bartlett 13, Eagle River 1

Bartlett beat Eagle River 13-1 on Tuesday, May 14 at Albrecht. Ally Cameron had an RBI single to score Teagan Mergen for the Wolves’ lone run.

 

West 20, Eagle River 0

West cruised to a 20-0 win over Eagle River on Tuesday, May 14 at Albrecht.

 

Chugiak 18, Service 3

Kenzie Matthis, Elle Gray and Bakker had a combined seven extra-base hits and nine RBI’s in Chugiak’s 18-3 win over Service on Tuesday, May 14 at Albrecht.

Matthis went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and four RBI’s; Gray was 4-for-4 with three doubles and three RBI’s; and Bakker went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI’s.

Metcalf got the win, pitching a three-hitter over five innings.

 

East 12, Chugiak 0

East blanked Chugiak 12-0 on Monday, May 13 at Albrecht Fields.

 

South 3, Chugiak 1

South earned a 3-1 win over Chugiak on Monday, May 13 at Albrecht.

 

East 15, Eagle River 0

East defeated Eagle River 15-0 on Monday, May 13 at Albrecht.

 

Skyview 8, Eagle River 2

Nonconference Skyview defeated Eagle River 8-2 on May 9 at Albrecht. Sarah Peyton went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Wolves.

 

West 10, Eagle River 1

Kelly Youngs went 2-for-2, stole a base and scored the lone run for Eagle River in a 10-1 loss to West on May 9 at Albrecht.

 

Eagle River 7, Service 4

Peyton went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI’s and scored a run to help Eagle River win its first game of the season 7-4 over Service on May 8 at Albrecht Fields. Youngs scored two runs for the Wolves.

Shannon Jones pitched a complete game, striking out three and giving up seven hits through four innings.

 

Bartlett 11, Eagle River 3

Asia Adkisson and Mikky Dean each hit triples in Eagle River’s 11-3 loss to Bartlett on May 8 at Albrecht. Adkisson, Dean and Cara Mitchell scored runs for the Wolves.

 

Chugiak takes two

Chugiak earned back-to-back convincing Cook Inlet Conference wins May 8 at Albrecht Fields. In the first game, the Mustangs defeated Dimond 7-1 before cruising past Service 14-3 in the second game.
