Conference tournament starts Saturday

Eagle River jumped out to an 8-1 lead, which proved too much for Chugiak to recover from, as the Wolves won 11-6 on Saturday, May 11 at Mulcahy Stadium.
Colby LeBlanc had three hits, scored four runs and drove in a run for Eagle River. Starter David Fuller pitched 5 2/3 innings for the win.
Chugiak mounted a late comeback, but stranded a combined six base runners in the sixth and seventh innings.
In the sixth, the Mustangs scored three runs to cut Eagle River’s lead to five and were poised to reduce the deficit further when Brad Cooper popped out with the bases loaded to end the inning.
The Wolves then held Chugiak scoreless in the seventh — and they have Collin Metzel to thank.
Again, Chugiak had the bases loaded with two outs when Deven Ferriss smacked a hard shot to the gap in left center field. Metzel stretched out and made the catch to end the Mustangs’ rally and the game.
Metzel also hit a two-run single in the first inning.
Kai Fugere had two hits and two RBI’s for Chugiak, which also got a pair of hits from Vander LeKites.
The high school regular season ends Friday, May 17 with Eagle River vs. Dimond at 4:30 p.m. followed by Chugiak vs. West at 7 at Mulcahy. Pool play for the Cook Inlet Conference tournament starts the following day with the top four seeds battling for a championship berth while the bottom four play a consolation playoff.
American Legion tryouts will be held Sunday, May 19. Tryouts for Chugiak Post 33 are set for 1 p.m. at Oberg Field while Eagle River’s are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Kosinski No. 2.
West 2, Eagle River 1
West edged Eagle River (3-3) 2-1 on Tuesday, May 14 at Mulcahy. Starter Wesley Bennice gave up just four hits and two runs through six innings. R.J. Dirscherl had an RBI double for the Wolves.
Chugiak 11, Dimond 10
In the bottom of the seventh, Alex Bozzo hit a two-out RBI single to score Nick Bozzo and lift Chugiak (4-2) past Dimond 11-10 on Monday, May 13 at Mulcahy.
Alex Bozzo went 3-for-4, Chase Wilson went 3-for-3 and Ferriss had two doubles and three RBI’s for the Mustangs.
Service 17, Eagle River 5
Service cruised to a 17-5 victory over Eagle River on Friday, May 10 at Mulcahy.
Chugiak 11, East 8
Trailing by one, the Mustangs used a four-run fourth inning to down East 11-8 on May 9 at Mulcahy.
Hunter Hanson led the Mustangs with three RBI’s.
Ferriss hit a double and two RBI’s and Wilson had a triple and drove in one run for Chugiak.
South 18, ER 12 (8 inn.)
Kyle Frost scored five runs and had three hits for Eagle River in its 18-12, extra-inning loss to South on May 8 at Mulcahy.
Fuller also had three hits and scored three runs for the Wolves.
Trailing by three, Eagle River tied the game in the seventh. The Wolves had a chance to win with the bases loaded and one out, but a suicide squeeze failed when the bunt popped up to South’s catcher and he threw to third for the inning-ending double play.

Service beat Chugiak 11-1 on May 8 at Mulcahy.
