Mirror Lake Middle School’s Band, Orchestra and Jazz band, under the direction of Travis Harrington and Jean Lenoir, traveled to Boston in late April to participate in the WorldStrides Heritage Music Performance.
The Concert Band and Advanced Orchestra each achieved a gold rating with the Jazz band receiving a silver rating.
Three Mirror Lake band students, Emily Jensen, David Stockhouse and Katie Bozone, were recognized for their solo performances and received maestro awards.
Other recognition received was the adjudicators award and an invitation to the Gold festival for concert band. The band also won the Festival Spirit of Boston Award for the first time in six years of participating in the annual event. The award was given to the school who in the judges opinion represented their school, community and state the best among participating bands.
Along with participating in the festival, Harrington said the band trip also included a visit to Fenway Park during the historic stadium’s 100th anniversary, attendance at clinics with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, a tour of the U.S.S. Constitution, a visit to the Freedom Trail, a stop at the Boston Science Museum and even a recreational stop at the Six Flags theme park.
