Three named All-CIC first team

Chugiak junior catcher Chase Wilson was named First Team All-Cook Inlet Conference in a vote of the conference coaches following the high school season.

Three local high school baseball players were named First Team All-Cook Inlet Conference in a vote of league coaches following the conclusion of the season. Chugiak catcher Chase Wilson and Mustangs outfielder Justin Schneider joined Eagle River’s Chris Parker on the first team.

Wilson, a junior, hit .429 with 14 RBI, 7 runs scored and a .528 on base percentage in 10 games for Chugiak, which finished the season 4-6.

Schneider hit .321 with a .441 on base percentage for Chugiak. The senior also belted a walk-off homer against Eagle River to provide one of the team’s biggest highlights of the season. He also made the second team as a pitcher.

Parker was named to the squad as a pitcher after picking up two saves in six innings pitched. The senior also played shortstop for Eagle River, which finished 5-5.

Three Eagle River players made the second team, including junior Colby LeBlanc, utillity player David Fuller and pitcher Wes Bennice. Joining Schneider on the second team for Chugiak was senior infielder Conner Cimmiyotti — who also earned honorable mention as a pitcher.

Also making the honorable mention team were Eagle River senior first baseman Greg Long and Wolves junior outfielder Kyle Frost.

Service’s Zach Ferntheil won the Don Rabung MVP award after going 3-0 as a pitcher with two saves. Ferntheil, who played four different positions, also batted .423 for the 10-0 Cougars.

Dimond’s Sheldon Rouzan, who hit .524 with 11 RBIs won the Big Stick award, while Service infielder Jake Ridley and South infielder Bryan Baker shared the Gold Glove award.
