Chugiak scored two first-half goals to down rival Eagle River 2-1 to keep bragging rights on South Birchwood for another year Tuesday, May 1 at Tom Huffer Sr. Stadium.
With the win, Chugiak improved to 7-3-1 in the Cook Inlet Conference.
Eagle River fell to 3-5-4 overall and 3-5-3 in the CIC.
Susan Fleurant and Catherine Jorgensen scored first half goals to give the Mustangs a 2-0 lead at the midway point. Eagle River’s Shayna Wolery cut the lead in half with a goal in the second half.
Chugiak’s quick start keyed the victory, said Fleurant, who notched the game’s first tally.
“In past games, we’ve been a second half team,” she said. “We wanted to start attacking from the beginning.”
With an early lead, the Mustangs are a difficult team to beat, Fleurant said.
“Once we get that first goal, we have the momentum,” she said.
Chugiak swept the season series with Eagle River, taking the first game 1-0 on March 31.

Shayna Wolery scored all three goals in Eagle River’s 3-0 win over Bartlett on May 30.
The Wolves host South today (Thursday, May 3) at 7 p.m. and play East on Saturday, May 5 at 1 p.m. at Dimond.
Chugiak hosts Juneau-Douglas on Friday, May 4 at 7 p.m. The Mustangs then host Service on Monday, May 7 at 7 p.m.
