Howard Marcus Burnham Jr., of Chugiak, died Oct. 11, 2012 at Providence Hospital in Anchorage. He was 69.

Mr. Burnham was born on March 30, 1943 in Mobile, Ala. to Howard Sr. and Geraldine Findley Burnham. He grew up in Grand Bay, Ala. He was a Navy veteran who served on the U.S.S. Iwo Jima and in Vietnam.

“He was the glue that held everything together,” his family wrote. “He loved to hunt and work in the sporting goods department at the Eagle River Walmart. He sang in the church choir, which he loved, and was a man strong in his faith. He was very knowledgable in many things and loved talking to people. He loved his wife (they would have been married 50 years in February) dearly. He will be greatly missed.”

He was preceded in death by his parents and uncle, Boykin Woodruff.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Burnham, of Chugiak; daughters and sons-in-law, Ginger and Ricky Sawyer, Tanya and Alex Constantino and Sabrina and Tatsuya Otsuka, all of Chugiak; granddaughter, Valntna “Binky” Otsuka, of Chugiak; grandson, Benjamin Constantino, of Chugiak; step-grandsons, Michael Sawyer and family of Meadow Lakes, Nicholas Sawyer and family of Tok and Ricky Sawyer and family, formerly of Big Lake; sisters, Lynda Ballard and Beverly Gayle, both of Baton Rouge, La.; aunts, Juanita Rudd, of Dunnellon, Fla., and Evelyn Woodruff, of Mobile, Ala.; cousin, Max Woodruff, of Mobile, Ala.; and numerous other family members.
