Suzanne Marie Buckley O’Neill, of Eagle River, died Sunday, Oct. 21 at her parents’ home in Eagle River with her parents and sisters beside her. She was 40.

“Suzy” was born Sept. 29, 1972 in Fairbanks and lived there until she was 11, when her family moved to Eagle River. She graduated from Chugiak High in 1990 and earned an Associate’s Degree in Air Traffic Control. She eventually started her own business as a DMV business partner.

She loved to play softball and barely missed a season since T-ball. She had a passion for flying and took private lessons, completing her solo flight from Anchorage to Talkeetna and then on to Homer. She was an artist who enjoyed oil painting, charcoal drawing and sewing. She had a passion for the outdoors — regardless of the season — and loved camping, riding her motorcycle, snowmachining and four-wheeling. Her greatest love was her son, Liam.

“Suzy was loved by all and had a very kind, gentle spirit,” her family said. “She loved being with her friends and family and will be missed dearly.”

She is survived by her son, Liam O’Neill, of Anchorage; parents, Joseph and Mary Buckley, of Eagle River; sisters, Sheryl Stevens and Loretta (Lorie) Buckley, of Eagle River; brother-in-law David Stevens, of Eagle River; nieces Hannah and Elizabeth Stevens, of Eagle River; aunt, Wanda Evans, of Yukon, Okla.; aunt and uncle Myra Faye and Brian Buckley of Bradenton, Fla.; and cousins, Vance Evans, of Norman, Okla., Saundra Anderson, of Conroe, Texas, Barbara Clark, of Yukon, Okla.; and many second cousins.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Nov. 3 at 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Annex on the corner of Monte and Old Glenn (behind the Haute Quarter Grill) in Eagle River.
