The Anchorage Fire Department’s Eagle River Station 11 ladder truck was involved in a traffic accident at around 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14 on the Glenn Highway in Anchorage.

According to Parker, a Chevy Monte Carlo lost control, bounced off an Anchorage School District van, then collided with the fire truck. Parker said two people in the Monte Carlo were transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries after being extricated from the Monte Carlo by firefighters on the scene.

No fire department personnel were injured in the accident, which shut down the inbound lanes of the Glenn Highway and forced APD to briefly close the Muldoon JBER gate.

According to the fire department, the truck suffered only minor damage, including a broken taillight.

The ladder truck was the subject of proposed budget cuts recently, but the Anchorage Assembly voted last night to continue funding the truck, which firefighters said is critical for use in highway rescues.
