MEA announces slight rate reduction
Matanuska Electric Association announced a slight rate reduction starting the first quarter of 2014.
Base rates will decrease by 1.13 percent, according to a Nov. 14 press release. The average MEA member — which uses just under 800 kilowatt hours of electricity each month — will see a monthly decrease of 98 cents, MEA spokesman Kevin Brown said in the release.
Rules set by the Regulatory Commission of Alaska (RCA) permit MEA to file for limited increases or decreases on a quarterly basis as long as the adjustments stay within “certain financial parameters established by the RCA,” according to the release. Once approved by the RCA, the new rate will start the first week of January 2014, MEA said.
