Not exactly the holiday spirit

A Trapper Creek woman was charged with theft after police observed her stealing from the Salvation Army’s collection bin at around 12:30 a.m. on Nov. 21, 2006. The items were returned to the thrift store.

Just one of the guys

Making the varsity hockey team as sophomore isn’t an easy feat for anyone — much less a girl.

Chugiak 10th grader Alev Kelter did just that when she earned a varsity roster spot for the Mustangs, according to a story on page 10 of the Nov. 30, 2006 Star.

“Alev is seeing considerable playing time and contributing to the team,” said Chugiak coach Rod Wild. “And she is doing so as a sophomore.”

Kelter said she wanted to play on the boys’ team to face a higher level of competition.

“I like the challenge of playing against the boys,” she told the Star.

Seniors report a good year

Chugiak-Eagle River Senior Center executive director Linda Hendrickson said the center had a great 2006.

“The biggest thing was the kitchen,” Hendrickson told the Star.

The center’s kitchen got a full remodel thanks to a federal grant.

Also, thanks to a grant from the Rasmussen Foundation, the center’s dining room also got a face-lift.

“We serve meals out of it every day, so a renovation was much needed,” she said.
