Community comes together

What a tremendous community we are lucky enough to live in! the fundraiser that was pulled together in a short amount of time for Anne Roberts on Friday, Sept. 21 was a giant success! Anne has been a longtime Eagle River and Chugiak resident for many years and raised four children in this community. Two months ago, she learned the breast cancer she fought and beat 10 years ago had returned, only this time it turned out to be a very rare form of breast cancer and she was flown to Seattle for treatment. Anne will be receiving treatment in Seattle for the next 2-3 months. To help with her medical costs, her colleagues at Prudential Vista Real Estate planned a fundraiser to help her.

What was to a total surprise was the outpouring of help from the community. Many thanks to the Eagle River Elks, who hosted the event, and special thanks to Steve Grohel, who made pots and pots of his famous homemade spaghetti sauce and never left the kitchen for hours. Thank you to the Sleeping Lady Lions Club, who came out in force to help with the silent auction, the serving, the cleaning, filling of water pitchers and anything else that was needed. Thank you to Pizza Man for donating all the delicious garlic bread. Thank you to Chugiak High culinary arts for making all the yummy salad. Thank you to all the Elks members who helped with spilt the pot, and thanks to Brian for being so tall! For everyone who donated gifts for the silent auction, we thank you very much.

We choose to live in Eagle River for the beauty of the mountains and river, but most of all we choose to live here for the people — we treat each other like family and that we are. Everyone take a bow and pat yourself on the back…you did a great job!
