Chugiak squads win league crowns

A pair of Chugiak Mustangs Mat-Su Youth Football Association (MYFA) teams won league titles on Saturday, Oct. 6 at Palmer High School.

The Chugiak 3rd/4th grade team defeated the Teeland Titans 28-2, while the Chugiak 7th/8th team (pictured) beat Colony 12-0. Dawson Budke scored both touchdowns for the 7th/8th grade team, which went undefeated in league play and outscored their opponents 352-36.

By winning the league crowns, the teams earned the right to play in the State Championships this Saturday, Oct. 13 at Palmer. The Chugiak 3rd/4th team is tentatively scheduled to play the Boys and Girls Club U11 champions at noon, with the 7th/8th graders set to go against the Boys and Girls Club U15 representatives at 4 p.m.

Also playing in a league championship game Oct. 6 were the Chugiak 5th/6th graders, who fell 36-0 to Palmer.
