It’s time to get minds on Munching.

The Chugiak-Eagle River Chamber’s annual Merry Merchant Munch is coming up fast, and the deadline to be included in the chamber’s “Munch Map” is coming up even faster.

Businesses who wish to participate in the event — which includes a tour of local businesses who hand out tasty treats to Munchers — need to let the chamber know they want to be on the map by Monday, Oct. 22.

“We really need to know if your business wants to participate as early as possible,” said chamber special events director Merry Braham.

This year’s festivities will be held Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 in downtown Eagle River. In addition to the Munch, there’s also the annual Winter Wonderland event on Dec. 1 in Town Square Park.

Last year’s Winter Wonderland — which includes sleigh rides, caroling and a visit from Santa Claus himself — attracted more than 1,500 people to the park.

“It’s a huge family event,” Braham said.

Anyone wishing to participate in the Merry Merchant Munch should contact the chamber at 694-4702.

The annual munch allows local businesses to open their doors to the public for a day or two of fun. Braham said businesses are free to set their own munching hours and can participate on either day or both.

“Hopefully it’s a way to get people into your business,” Braham said.

The event can be a wonderful way to get involved, she said, because it’s the kind of thing that brings families together for some old-fashioned community fun. She said the Munch and Winter Wonderland events are one of the highlights of the year in Eagle River.

“Just picture Norman Rockwell on steroids,” Braham said.
