Nehemiah’s Mission

Published:

And the rulers knew not whither I went, or what I did; neither had I as yet told it to the Jews, nor to the priests, nor to the nobles, nor to the rulers, nor to the rest that did the work. Then said I unto them, Ye see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lieth waste, and the gates thereof are burned with fire: come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a reproach. Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me; as also the king’s words that he had spoken unto me. And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work. 19 But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they laughed us to scorn, and despised us, and said, What is this thing that ye do? will ye rebel against the king? Then answered I them, and said unto them, The God of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build: but ye have no portion, nor right, nor memorial, in Jerusalem.

— Nehemiah 2:16-20

Nehemiah’s mission was challenged and laughed at by Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabia but he pushed forward. When we have been appointed by God, we are often challenged by the very people we are to help. Nehemiah did not allow these men to stop him.

I am impressed at how Nehemiah continued his mission. As the Executive Director of Love INC, I am often faced with many challenges as a non profit manager. We constantly review our organization, its impact upon our community and the people we serve. We want to be that light that shines in the dark corners of our community which will bring about change.

Some people see Love INC as an organization that assist in paying neighbors’ bills rather than ministering to each person’s heart that they may understand their need. It is our goal to give our neighbors a Hand up and not a Handout. If you are a skilled Christian trainer in: financial planning, resume writing, social media, and basic computer skills we need you. Please call Love INC at 250-1735 if you are interested in helping our neighbors to become self-sufficient in managing their life. Nehemiah 2: Then answered I them, and said unto them, The God of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build . . .

I believe as a community we can and we will bring about change by training our neighbors in becoming self-sufficient. To God be the glory.

Amen.
