Mirror Lake earns cross country crown

Four in top-15 lifts 6th/7th girls to city title

Paris Williams finished third to lead Mirror Lake to a first-place finish in the 6th/7th grade girls competition at the 2012 Anchorage Middle School Cross Country Running City Championships on Oct. 9 at Kincaid Park.

Williams finished the 3-kilometer course in 12 minutes, 21 seconds to edge Gruening’s Madelyn Madsen by three seconds for third. Sixth grader Kinley Sanders was seventh for the Coyotes, which got an 11th-place finish from Brynn Kruchoski. Also cracking the top 20 for the Mirror Lake 6th/7th girls were Emma Nelson (14th), sixth-grader Emma Sees (15th) and Lauren Devine (17th). The Gruening girls were sixth

Mirror Lake’s Jacob Koskinski finished fifth to become the top local finisher in the 6th/7th boys race for the fourth-place Coyotes, one spot in front of teammate Max Hartke. Michael Thomas was 25th to lead Gruening, which finished 10th.

Gruening eighth-grader Kate Paskievitch was the top local finisher among eighth-graders. Paskievitch completed the course in 12:40 to place third in the 8th grade girls’ race for the fifth-place Colts. Mirro Lake’s Peyton Young was seventh for the sixth-place Coyotes.

Among 8th grade boys, Mirror Lake’s John Weaver finished fourth in 11:13 to lead local boys in the race for the fourth-place Coyotes. John Hail was 15th to lead Gruening, which placed eighth overall.
