West downs Chugiak; Dimond blanks Eagle River

Both Chugiak and Eagle River’s flag football seasons ended in the first round of the Cook Inlet Conference tournament Monday, Oct. 14.

Home-field advantage didn’t help the Mustangs, as fourth-seeded West earned a 20-6 win over No. 5 Chugiak at Tom Huffer Sr. Stadium.

West quarterback Annie Rush connected with Abby Fisher on a 41-yard strike late in the first quarter to put the Eagles up 6-0. Rush then found Ana Sophia-Roberts on a 21-yard TD pass midway through the second quarter.

Chugiak answered immediately.

On the first play of the ensuing drive, Ashleigh Sitz found an open Holly Brehmer, who scampered 81 yards for the score.

Sophia-Roberts added a 10-yard rushing touchdown as the third quarter ended to seal the victory for West.

Top-seeded Dimond rolled over No. 8 Eagle River 42-0 on Monday at Dimond Alumni Field.

 

Chugiak 30, Eagle River 0

Brehmer scored three times to help Chugiak blank Eagle River 30-0 in the regular-season finale Saturday, Oct. 12 at Tom Huffer Sr. Stadium. Sitz and Alise Arnold also scored for the Mustangs.

 

South 33, Chugiak 7

Host South cruised to a 33-7 victory over Chugiak on Oct. 10.

 

Service 26, Eagle River 0

Service shutout Eagle River 26-0 on Oct. 10 at Anchorage Football Stadium.
