A busy time of year at AFAA

The Alaska Fine Arts Academy has several ongoing programs and activities. Here’s a look at what they offer:

Play continues: The final two shows of “Shake, Rattle and Rot: The Zombie Musical” will be put on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25-26 at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at www.akfinearts.org or by calling 694-8909. General admission is $14 — seniors, military and children 12 and younger are $12.

Masquerade costume ball: AFAA is hosting a masquerade costume ball Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. Children younger than 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Admission is $5.

Gleeful Christmas: A glee choir, under the direction of Laura Albright, will practice every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. until the Christmas show Dec. 18. A children’s choir will start after the holidays. A $75 donation is suggested.

Dance for musical theater: Learn modern dance techniques, stretching and toning from instructor Dave Chapa. Classes start Friday, Nov. 1 and run every Friday from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. Cost is $60 per month.

Kindermusik: Angela Harris teaches Wiggle and Grow for children ages 0 to 3 on Thursdays from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Registration is ongoing for a Laugh and Learn class for kids ages 3 to 4. Call 694-8909 to register. Classes are $59.95 per month.

Community orchestra: Join fellow orchestra enthusiasts Mondays from 6:45 to 9:30 p.m. Cost is $100 for the semester.

AFAA also offers private music lessons in strings, guitar, piano and voice. Art classes are also offered. AFAA is seeking to expand its art program and is looking for a pottery instructor. Anyone interested or for more information, call 694-8909.
