South swims past Chugiak
Four flaggers earn top honors
Chugiak’s Sammy Burke swims to a first-place finish in the 100 free Friday, Oct. 18 during a dual against South at Bartlett’s pool.
Sammy Burke (200 IM, 100 free) and Emmie Jennings (100 fly, 100 back) won two individual events apiece and swam a leg of two winning relays in Chugiak’s 112-71 loss to South on Friday, Oct. 18 at Bartlett’s pool.
Jennings and Burke teamed up with Abby Blackstone and Marissa Headrick to win the 200 medley and 400 free relays.
South’s boys earned the sweep with a 131-54 win. David Stockhouse (200 IM), Shawn Fugere (diving) and Zachary Martin (500 free) earned victories for Chugiak’s boys.
Eagle River, West split
Eagle River’s boys won all but one event to down host West 117-65 on Friday, Oct. 18.
West earned a split with a narrow 93-92 win in the girls’ meet.
Jordyn Bruce (200 IM, 500 free) and Esther Min (50 free, 100 back) won two individual events apiece for the Wolves, who swept all three relays.
Eagle River downs Service
Cat Papasodora fired a 291 to help Eagle River defeat visiting Service 3,101-2,647 on Friday, Oct. 18. Jessica Mooty shot a 285 and Tristan Henderson fired a 284 for the Wolves.
Eagle River 3, Bartlett 2
Eagle River came from behind to earn a 3-2 (28-26, 15-25, 13-25, 29-27, 15-12) victory over visiting Bartlett on Friday, Oct. 18.
Kara Viotto led the Wolves with 14 kills. Paige Harder dished out 40 assists for Eagle River.
Service 3, Chugiak 0
Service made quick work of visiting Chugiak with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-21) win Friday, Oct. 18. Rachel Gregg’s 11 digs and eight kills led the Mustangs.
Flaggers earn top honors
Four local flag football players were named to the All Cook Inlet Conference team.
Those included Chugiak’s Holly Brehmer, Janissa Arzie and Chelsea Krueger and Eagle River’s Lauren Frost.
