Chugiak netters third at Dimond-Service tourney

Mustangs riflery team falls to West

Chugiak finished third at the Dimond-Service volleyball tournament Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25-26. The Mustangs cruised in pool play, going 7-1 on Friday, to earn a spot in the gold bracket.

Chugiak downed East 2-0 (25-22, 25-22) then beat Palmer 2-0 (27-25, 25-21) to earn a spot in the semifinals against Kodiak. The Bears edged Chugiak in a three-set match 2-1 (24-26, 25-20, 15-12).

Dimond came out of the loser’s bracket and beat Kodiak twice to win the title.

Mt. Edgecumbe won the silver bracket and Ketchikan won the bronze bracket. Eagle River was winless in pool play and beat Houston 2-0 (25-17, 25-22) to finish third in the bronze division.

Chugiak junior Rachel Gregg was named to the all-tournament team.

 

Chugiak 3, Bartlett 0

Gregg furnished 13 kills and six blocks to help Chugiak sweep host Bartlett 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-17) on Oct. 23. Kirsten Veech had nine digs and three aces for the Mustangs, who got nine kills and two aces from Natalie Stark.

 

East 3, Eagle River 0

East swept visiting Eagle River 3-0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-18) on Oct. 23. Lindsey Foster recorded five kills for the Wolves, who got four from Paige Ardizzone and three from Kara Viotto.

 

Riflery

West downs Chugiak

West High had the top-four best scores as the Eagles riflery team down visiting Chugiak 3,152-3,022 on Friday, Oct. 25.

Garrett Johnson led Chugiak with a 278. Emily Vannortwich and Delaney Hawkins each fired 273 for the Mustangs.
