Funding education a top priority
The only legitimate reason for government is to take care of its people. The Parnell administration has led the fight to dumb down and financially strangle public education in Alaska.
As a community, we need to keep up the pressure on our elected officials to make funding of education a priority rather than giving away billions of dollars a year to oil companies and boondoggle projects such as tennis courts and a bridge across Cook Inlet.
There can be little doubt that our state and city governments have been co-opted by interests that fail to reflect the needs of our children and our community. The backbone of a strong democracy is a well-funded public education system.
It is easier to build strong children than it is to repair broken people.
