Sara Eliassen was very active in tour local Girl Sout program in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
This recipe is one she gave the leaders who would be taking their troops to summer camp.
Sara was from Alabama, and so the name
• 1 32 oz. can applesauce
• 1 package gingerbread mix
• 4 tablespoons Oleo
Melt Oleo in kettle over campfire. Pour in applesauce seasoned with cinnamon. Heat.
Mix bread according to directions on package. Pour gently over applesauce. Cover tightly. Cook over fire about 30 minutes.
Makes 8 large servings. Don’t cook more than two recipes in one kettle. (You don’t need to be a Girl Scout to enjoy this dessert, but you do need to know how to build a fire)
