Kelly Cobb continues to amaze those who are getting their first look at the precocious 19-year-old Duke University freshman soccer player.
Cobb, a 2011 Chugiak High graduate from Peters Creek, earned national Player of the Week honors from both TopDrawerSoccer.com and Soccer America magazine after posting two more eye-popping games in a pair of victories for the No. 4-ranked Blue Devils (7-1-0).
On Friday, Sept. 9, Cobb exploded for two goals and three assists in Duke’s 7-2 thrashing of Texas A&M. Cobb’s seven points tied a Duke single-game record and set a new standard for freshmen. Her three assists also tied a Duke freshman record.
On Sunday, Sept. 11, Cobb scored another goal in Duke’s 2-0 win over UNC Greensboro.
Through Duke’s first eight games, the 5-foot-9 forward has notched five goals and four assists to lead the team in both categories. She also leads the team in shots (29), shots on goal (16) and game-winning goals (3).
Duke’s next game is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 15 against the College of Charleson.
