Healed Hartke leads way at Skyview XC Invitational
ER’s King 10th to lead local boys
Sam Hartke is just fine.
The Chugiak junior, who withdrew from the previous week’s Bartlett Invitational with a leg injury, led all Chugiak-Eagle River runners with a sixth-place finish out of 99 participants in the girls varsity race at the Skyview Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 27.
Hartke finished the 5-kilometer race at Tsalteshi Trails in 19 minutes, 15 seconds. She was just one second behind fifth-place finisher Rachel Roelle of West High and six seconds out of third place.
Evy Hail led Eagle River’s girls team with a 14th-place finish for the eighth-place Wolves. Hail came in at 19:43, six seconds ahead of teammate Hannah Stevens, who finished 16th.
Chugiak finished 11th overall.
Kenai Central’s Allie Ostrander blazed to victory in 17:53.
West won the overall team title followed by Kenai and Wasilla.
Chugiak’s boys had four runners finish in the top 40, good enough to earn a fifth-place finish in the team standings. Eagle River finished 14th.
Brandon King led the Wolves and all Chugiak-Eagle River boys by finishing in 10th out of 136 runners with a time of 16:51.
Kodiak’s Cole Christlansen won the race in 16:07. Max Romey of Service took second and Seward’s Miles Knotek placed third.
Service won the overall team title followed by Kodiak in second and Palmer in third.
