Sleeping roadside driver arrested for DUI
Anchorage police said they arrested Joseph Grant Woods, 34, of Anchorage for driving under the influence after an officer found him parked in the emergency pullout on the northbound Glenn Highway at Eklutna Flats just before 2 a.m. on Sept. 1. The vehicle was running with lights on and Woods was asleep, police spokeswoman Marlene Lammers said. Officers smelled alcohol on him and he failed field-sobriety tests. Woods’ breath-alcohol level was just over twice the legal limit. He was taken to Anchorage Jail on $250 bail.
Other DUI arrests, according to police:
Jason Michael Dresnek, 36, of Eagle River after an off-duty police officer saw his vehicle driving recklessly on the southbound Glenn Highway at Palmer Flats just after 10 p.m. on Sept. 1. Dispatchers aired a description of the vehicle. Officers saw it pass South Birchwood and stopped it. An officer smelled alcohol on Dresnek and he failed field-sobriety tests. His breath-alcohol level was just over twice the legal limit. Dresnek was taken to Anchorage Jail on $250 bail.
Ethan Cody Philbrick, 22, of Anchorage after an officer saw a vehicle parked at the Hiland Exit, “leaning toward the passenger side” with two men having what looked like a heated argument just before 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 2. The officer noticed both passenger-side tires were destroyed and smelled alcohol on both men. Philbrick, who said he was the driver, failed field-sobriety tests. His breath-alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit. He was taken to Anchorage Jail on $500 bail.
Charges are merely accusations; defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty at trial or until a plea of guilty is accepted by the courts.
