East football used as hurricane of second-half points to notch a 43-18 blowout over Eagle River at a windy Dimond Alumni Field on Saturday, Sept. 22.

With the wind at their backs, the T-Birds broke open what had been a close game at the half with a trio of third-quarter touchdowns.

Despite the outcome, Wolves head coach Jason Brewer had nothing but praise for his team’s effort.

“We ask our kids to play with passion, and they did that today,” Brewer said of his squad, which was again without the service of starting quartrback Peter Kott and halfback Ed Hall.

“We’ve got injuries all over the place."

Diego Su’a T’eo got East off to a flying start with a pair of first-quarter touchdown runs.

But the Wolves clawed back, sandwiching a 3-yard touchdown pass from Alani Collins and a 2-yard Collins run around an East score to make it 18-12 at the half.

Jeavonte Dunn had the lone second-half highlight for the Wolves when he took an East kickoff 69 yards for a touchdown that made it 37-18 heading into the fourth.

But the Wolves would get no closer, as they fell to 0-6 in the Cook Inlet Conference and 1-6 overall.

East rushed for 288 yards on 47 carries and outgained the Wolves 422-193.

Eagle River can still eclipse its win total from last season with a victory in its season finale against Bartlett on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. at Eagle River. The game will be a battle for seventh place in the conference, as the Golden Bears are also winless in the CIC this year.
