Local man grabs second place in salmon tourney

Hats off to Eagle River resident Eric Kjelland, who nabbed a 25.90 king salmon to place second in the 2014 Homer Winter King Tournament on March 22.

Best of all, he grabbed $12,684 in prize money.

This year, 906 anglers fishing on 270 boats caught 202 salmon.

 

Winners and prize money included:

First: Raymond Tepp, Kenai, 30.6 lbs., $19,026.

Second: Eric Kjelland, Eagle River, 25.90 lbs., $12,684.

Third: Jon Bartelds, Kenai, 25.70, $9,966.

Fourth: Matt Hockema, Fritz Creek, 25.40, $7,248.

Fifth: William Lancaster, Homer, 23.90, $5,436.

Sixth: Brandon McCutcheon, Anchorage, 23.30, $4,530.

Seventh: Matt Wasson, Anchorage, 23.20, $3,624.

Eighth: Toras Fisk, Homer, 22.50, $2,718.

Ninth: Steven Whiting, Anchorage, 22.20, $1,812.

Tenth: Russel Geagel, Seldovia, 21.50, $906.
