His family wrote that he has returned "to the arms of our Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ."

John Tobia, 95, of Windham, N.H., passed away peacefully Jan. 14, 2010, at the Warde Health Center in Windham.

John was born in Rutland, Vt., on Oct. 20, 1914, to Camillo and Angelina Tobia. He grew up in Southbridge, Mass., where he attended school and was president of the graduating class of Mary Wells High School in 1931. He received his degree in Engineering from the University of Alabama.

Longtime Alaska resident William James "Bill" Diedrich, 73, died Jan. 2, 2010, at home in the presence of his family after a long illness.

A Mass of Christian burial, presided over by the Rev. Steven Moore, was Saturday at Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Eagle River.

Longtime Eagle River resident Leo De La Cruz Sr. died Dec. 22, 2009, of a heart attack at his home in Eagle River. A funeral service was held Wednesday with full military honors at Fort Richardson Cemetery.

Frederick Morgan Hess, 76, passed away from this life on Dec. 4, 2009, in Eagle River.

Services were held Dec. 11 at Fort Richardson Army Base. He received full military honors with a 21-gun salute.

Daniel Dale Edward Barnes died Oct. 31, 2009, in Chugiak.

A celebration of life was held Nov. 7 at Evergreen's Eagle River Funeral Home.

He was born Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22, 1979, to Steve and Cindy Johnson of Eagle River.

Edna Marjorie Jackson, 91, died Aug. 4, 2009, of natural causes at Alaska Native Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 6, 1955, in Roseburg, Ore. He moved to Alaska in 1982 where he eventually resided in Eagle River with his family.

Dan was the co-owner of Siegel Construction and Klondike Concrete of Chugiak.

Former area resident Lois Ann Colton, 80, passed away July 28, 2009, at Mat-Su Regional Hospital. She was born June 6, 1929, in Aberdeen, Wash., the daughter of Carl and Helen (Savard) Haasl.

Lois graduated from Brooklyn High School (North River), Brooklyn, Wash., and while raising her children, she went on to complete the LPN program at Peninsula Community College in Pot Angeles, Wash.

Eagle River resident Emma Mary Calderone died on July 19, 2009, at Providence Hospital in Anchorage. She was 78.

Emma was born in Stevens Point, Wis., on March 27, 1931, to Leo and Helen Zurawski. Emma was married to the love of her life, Lawrence Calderone, in Oceanside, Calif., on Feb. 10, 1951.

Todd Warden, 35, died July 12, 2009, at his Eagle River home from the disease of alcoholism.

A private family viewing was Friday. A memorial service was held Monday at Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel in Anchorage. A second memorial service in Iowa is also planned.

Warren R. Kitchens Jr., 58, died peacefully June 28, 2009, after complications from surgery.

A memorial service for family and friends was held at the Chugiak Senior Center July 2.

Eagle River resident Mona Grace Biggs, 66, died June 20, 2009, of respiratory failure at Providence Alaska Medical Center.

Steven M. Kean, 20, died June 15, 2009, in Chugiak.

Eagle River resident Marvin Campbell, 66, died at Providence Alaska Medical Center May 31, 2009, after a six-month battle with cancer.

Chugiak resident Anita L. Palumbo, 81, died June 2, 2009, in Anchorage. A service was held Monday at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Eagle River.
