John Tobia, 95, of Windham, N.H., passed away peacefully Jan. 14, 2010, at the Warde Health Center in Windham.
John was born in Rutland, Vt., on Oct. 20, 1914, to Camillo and Angelina Tobia. He grew up in Southbridge, Mass., where he attended school and was president of the graduating class of Mary Wells High School in 1931. He received his degree in Engineering from the University of Alabama.
Longtime Eagle River resident Leo De La Cruz Sr. died Dec. 22, 2009, of a heart attack at his home in Eagle River. A funeral service was held Wednesday with full military honors at Fort Richardson Cemetery.
Former resident John Lloyd Day, 78, died Nov. 29, 2009, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, from injuries due to an automobile vehicle accident on Nov. 20, 2009.
Stella C. "Christine" Ford died of a heart attack Dec. 10, 2009, at Mat-Su Regional Hospital in Palmer. A funeral service was held Dec. 15 at Kehl's Funeral Home in Palmer.
John Edward Wright Sr., 56, died Oct. 30, 2009 at his home in Eagle River.
A public viewing and services was held Nov. 6 at Alliance Christian Fellowship in Eagle River. A military funeral followed at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.
Harry C. Knutson, 84, died peacefully Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at the home of his daughter in Centralia, Wash.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the River of Life Lutheran Church in Chugiak, with Pastor Carol George officiating. His final resting place will be in Pine River, Minn.
Lifelong Alaska resident John Frederick Romig, 53, died Sept. 19, 2009, at his home in Peters Creek.
Hurd, 61, retired Marine and dedicated volunteer Guy "Larry" Hurd, 61, died Sept. 22, 2009, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. A visitation and service were held Monday at Evergreen's Eagle River Funeral Home. His cremated remains were buried at Fort Richardson National Cemetery Wednesday.
Eagle River resident Richard Pauley, 69, died Sept. 14, 2009, at his home. A public viewing was held Friday at St. Andrew Catholic Church, followed by a rosary and a vigil. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday.
Eagle River resident Grace Angela Timiani, 83, died peacefully at home Aug. 23, 2009, surrounded by her family, after a nine-year battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Chugiak resident Marjorie L. Burgess, 87, died peacefully Aug. 1, 2009, surrounded by loved ones, in Woodburn, Ore. A memorial service was held Saturday at VFW Post 9785 in Eagle River.

Adams, 83, dedicated his life to mission work Eagle River resident Enoch Adams, 83, died at home on July 22, 2009. A memorial service was held Saturday at Faith Covenant Bible Chapel in Colorado Springs. He was laid to rest at Evergreen Ceremony the following day.
Retired Sen. Tim Kelly, 65, who earned a reputation as a skilled backstage manager during his long service in the state Legislature, died Aug. 17 at home in Anchorage.
Former area resident Lois Ann Colton, 80, passed away July 28, 2009, at Mat-Su Regional Hospital. She was born June 6, 1929, in Aberdeen, Wash., the daughter of Carl and Helen (Savard) Haasl.
Lois graduated from Brooklyn High School (North River), Brooklyn, Wash., and while raising her children, she went on to complete the LPN program at Peninsula Community College in Pot Angeles, Wash.
Eagle River resident Emma Mary Calderone died on July 19, 2009, at Providence Hospital in Anchorage. She was 78.
Emma was born in Stevens Point, Wis., on March 27, 1931, to Leo and Helen Zurawski. Emma was married to the love of her life, Lawrence Calderone, in Oceanside, Calif., on Feb. 10, 1951.
She was born on Jan. 22, 1932, in Kinsley, Kan., the daughter of James and Elizabeth Gray. Joan moved to Alaska in 1962 and lived in Eagle River until 1988. After living in Colorado for nearly 20 years, she retired in Wasilla in 2008.
Former Eagle River resident Alan Lynn Jones died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, in Stillwater, Okla., having reached the age of 63 years, 6 months and 4 days.

Former Eagle River and Kenai resident Mardi K. Hutchens, 59, died July 22, 2009, from cancer at his home three days before his 60th birthday.
Todd Warden, 35, died July 12, 2009, at his Eagle River home from the disease of alcoholism.
A private family viewing was Friday. A memorial service was held Monday at Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel in Anchorage. A second memorial service in Iowa is also planned.
