A Thanksgiving thank you to our community
We at Love INC of Eagle River cannot thank you enough for your prayers and contributions to another successful Thanksgiving Blessing Project for 2011.
This year we exceeded expectations, serving complete turkey meals to 288 families, a 46 percent increase over last year's numbers. Area-wide, the Food Bank saw a 9 percent increase in families served this year over last, though the last two years have had poor road conditions. This event is held yearly on the Monday before Thanksgiving, and this year was the 6th time that Eagle River has been one of the sites for this annual Food Bank of Alaska event.
Non-perishable food was provided by members of the following Love INC Partner Churches: Alliance Christian Fellowship, Eagle River Church of the Nazarene, St. John Orthodox Church, Joy Lutheran Church, Skyline Family Fellowship, Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, United Methodist Church of Chugiak, Peters Creek Christian Center, Community Covenant Church, River of Life Lutheran Church, and St. Andrew Catholic Church. Volunteers from each of these churches and from around the community truly stepped forward making this event a resounding success.
Special thanks go to Joy Thompson of the Church of God food pantry and T.J. and Norma Jones of the Crossing church who drove trucks to Anchorage and back to make sure our site was supplied with plenty of food. Many thanks to Eagle River Grace Church and Grace Community AME Church, members of the Eagle River Area Rotary, as well as several individual donors, who made financial contributions to cover the cost items purchased from the Food Bank.
This year's event ran as smoothly as ever, and we already have plans to better manage the crowded times. Love INC is truly grateful for our hosts, Joy Lutheran church, whose staff and members provided first class hospitality. Every visitor was offered cookies and drinks while they waited for their turn to shop for their Thanksgiving meals. Also available to families were resources such as food stamps and other public assistance, as well as a prayer volunteer for those who wanted prayer.
Love In the Name of Christ is honored to coordinate this Thanksgiving Blessing Project which truly helps churches help people, and shows our gratitude in this season of thanksgiving, by sharing our blessing with our neighbors in need.
