Chugiak man arrested in New Year's crash
Tex Daniels, 22, of Chugiak, was arrested Tuesday, Jan. 24 on two counts of first degree assault, DWI and failure to render aid for an incident that occurred early New Year’s Day in downtown Anchorage.
According to Anchorage Police, Daniels lost control of his pickup truck near the corner of West 15th Avenue and I Street after passing another vehicle. Police say he struck a rock pile and snow bank, along with pedestrians Ashley Brotherton and Clayton Wilbanks of Anchorage.
Police Lt. Dave Parker said Wednesday that the results of Daniels’ blood alcohol test showed a concentration of .226 — nearly three times the legal limit in Alaska.
Parker said Brotherton suffered a broken neck, scull fractures and brain swelling, while Wilbanks suffered a broken nose, fractured vertebra, lacerated spleen and cuts to his scalp. Both survived their injuries.
Daniels was jailed on $5,000 bail with a court-approved third party custodian required and arraigned on Wednesday, Jan. 26.
