Bryan Michael Watkins
Bryan Michael Watkins, of Eagle River, died on Dec. 31, 2011 in Oklahoma from a massive brain hemorrhage. He was 32.
Watkins was born Jan. 8, 1979 in Anchorage, the youngest son of Jerry and Carole Watkins of Eagle River.
He attended Chugiak High and later earned his GED.
His hobbies included snow boarding, riding four-wheelers and snowmobiles, camping and hunting.
“Bryan loved to make people laugh, and he took great joy in helping other people in unfortunate situations whenever he could,” his family said. “He was raised in his parents’ church, Kings Way Assembly of God in Eagle River, and asked Jesus into his heart there and was baptized at age 10. Recently he was reading ‘The Secret to a Focused Life,’ by Christian author Dr. Chri de Bruyn. He was hopeful about learning the tools needed to help him overcome the destructive habits in his life.”
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robbie (who died as an infant); grandfathers Glenn Watkins and Ted Summers; grandmother, Jean Summers; and step-grandmother Serena Summers.
His is survived by his parents; sister and brother-in-law Heather and Matt Opitz and their son, Brock, of Sherwood, Ore.; grandmother Imogene Watkins; and many other relatives in Alaska, Oklahoma, Texas and Kentucky.
A memorial service will be held at Kings Way Ministry on Eagle River Loop Road Sunday, Feb. 26 at 4 p.m. His ashes will be interred in Alaska at both his brother’s gravesite and in a favorite mountain valley where he enjoyed four-wheeling and camping with his dad.
