Chugiak, Eagle River soccer to face off
EDITOR'S NOTE: The April 21 soccer matches have been postponed until May 1. Read more here.
The Mustangs ware slated to host their crosstown rival on April 21 at Tom Huffer Sr. stadium (girls at 9 a.m. and boys at 11), however, snow and ice still covered portions of the turf early this week, and on Wednesday the Anchorage School District announced the matches had been postponed.
“It’s mostly cleared, but there’s still ice on parts of it,” Chugiak girls head coach Paul Brehmer said Tuesday, April 17.
Brehmer guessed it was a 50/50 chance the game would be played as scheduled.
“It depends what happens in the next couple of days,” he said. “We’re holding out hope, but it’s hard to say right now.”
Chugiak and Eagle River split in the first meeting this season March 31. Chugiak’s girls won 1-0 while Eagle River’s boys defeated the Mustangs for the first time in school history 3-0.
Chugiak’s boys dropped a 5-1 decision to Cook Inlet Conference foe West on April 16. Dylan Gassmann scored the Mustangs’ lone goal. With the loss, Chugiak dropped to 1-5 in the CIC.
Elyse Perez and Megan Bear scored goals in the Chugiak girls’ 3-2 loss to West on April 16. The loss dropped the Mustangs to 4-2 in the conference.
