Chugiak girls complete sweep of rival Wolves
Chugiak scored two first-half goals to down rival Eagle River 2-1 to keep bragging rights on South Birchwood for another year Tuesday, May 1 at Tom Huffer Sr. Stadium.
With the win, Chugiak improved to 7-3-1 in the Cook Inlet Conference.
Eagle River fell to 3-5-4 overall and 3-5-3 in the CIC.
Susan Fleurant and Catherine Jorgensen scored first half goals to give the Mustangs a 2-0 lead at the midway point. Eagle River’s Shayna Wolery cut the lead in half with a goal in the second half.
Chugiak’s quick start keyed the victory, said Fleurant, who notched the game’s first tally.
“In past games, we’ve been a second half team,” she said. “We wanted to start attacking from the beginning.”
With an early lead, the Mustangs are a difficult team to beat, Fleurant said.
“Once we get that first goal, we have the momentum,” she said.
Chugiak swept the season series with Eagle River, taking the first game 1-0 on March 31.
