Local nines wrap up prep baseball seasons at CIC tournament

Eagle River ended the high school baseball season 5-5 with a 14-4 win over West on Monday, May 21 at Chad Bax Field.

Ricky Ayala led the Wolves with five RBIs, including an inside-the-park grand slam.

Colby LeBlanc had three hits and David Fuller had two RBIs for Eagle River.

Many of the same prep players will make up local American Legion teams this summer. Eagle River American Legion opens its season against Bartlett on Saturday, May 26 at 7 p.m. at Mulcahy Stadium.

Chugiak finished the season 4-6 after losing to Dimond 23-3 on Monday, May 21 at Oberg Field.

Chugiak Post 33 opens the legion season against South on Saturday, May 26 at 4 p.m. at Mulcahy.

Service 5, Chugiak 1

Top-seeded Service scored three runs in the first inning en route to a 5-1 win over Chugiak in the CIC playoffs Saturday, May 19 at Mulcahy Stadium.

Deven Ferriss scored Chugiak’s lone run in the sixth inning.

The Cougars had six hits while Chugiak had five hits and committed three errors.

Bartlett 10, Eagle River 1

Seventh-seeded Bartlett racked up nine runs in the third inning and cruised to a 10-1 win over Eagle River in the CIC playoffs Saturday, May 19 at Mulcahy Stadium.

The Golden Bears had eight hits through seven innings to Eagle River’s six.

South 12, Chugiak 6

Second-seeded South High handed Chugiak a 12-6 loss in the Mustangs’ first game of the conference playoffs Friday, May 18 at Mulcahy Stadium.

Eagle River 4, East 3

Eagle River scored four runs on four hits in the second and hung on to win 4-3 over eighth-seeded East in the opening round of the CIC playoffs Thursday, May 17 at Mulcahy Stadium.

David Fuller went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs, including what would prove to be the game-winner. Shortstop Chris Parker smacked an RBI double for Eagle River.
