Fightin' Fish set to arrive

Opening Day is June 12

A big run of fish is about to arrive in Chugiak-Eagle River.

The first members of the Alaska Baseball League’s Chinooks begin reporting for duty June 5 in advance of the team’s June 12 opening day clash against the Anchorage Bucs at Loretta French Field in Chugiak.

General Manager Chris Beck arrives in town today. Beck said last week he’s excited about the group of players he’s got lined up for the upcoming season.

“Best case scenario we could add one more [pitcher], but I think it looks good,” Beck said.

Booster club president Lee Jordan said bleachers at the field were recently installed, and plans for concession sales are being finalized.

“You’ve gotta have crackerjacks,” Jordan said.

Beck said housing arrangements have been made for all of the 24 players on the current roster.

Although admission for all of the team’s home games is free, Jordan said season tickets — which inlcude a stadium seat, coupon book, a subscription to the Chugiak-Eagle River Star and Alaska Journal of Commerce and program — are still for sale for $150.
