Amanda Hesser and Joshua Steffen
Amanda Hesser, of Eagle River, was engaged to Joshua Steffen, of Alexandria, Minn., on June 10, 2012, on Tybee Island, Ga. The couple plan to marry in August 2013 in Girdwood.
The bride-to-be is the daughter of Becky Hesser and David Horst. She is a 2006 graduate of Chugiak High School and a 2011 graduate of the University of Alaska Anchorage with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. She is scheduled to graduate in 2013 with her Master’s in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Capella Univeristy.
The groom-to-be is the son of Mike and Ronna Steffen. He is a Sgt. 1st Class in the United States Army, currently deployed to Afghanistan with the 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division. He has a 6-year-old daughter named Adrianna who lives in Richmond Hill, Ga.
Joshua proposed to Amanda on Tybee Island during a severe thunderstorm and flood warning. He took her down to the beach and led her under the pier, where he had a lantern set in the sand next to where he wrote the date of the first time he said “I love you” and “Will you marry me?.”
She said, “of course!”
The couple met at Community Covenant Church during a dodge ball tournament fundraiser. They were put on the same team by mutual family friends who used to live in Joshua’s hometown and met Amanda when they moved to Alaska. The moment they saw each other they both knew it was something special!
