The 27th Alaska State Legislature honored Eklutna, Inc. for 40 years of service to the state, the community and its shareholders.

State Reps. Bill Stoltze (R-Chugiak) and Dan Saddler (R-Eagle River) presented a citation to Eklutna’s board of directors at its meeting June 19.

The citation congratulated Eklutna, Inc. for “its commitment to improving the lives of shareholders by working to preserve their culture and history while providing economic opportunity and security for the future.”

It was a great honor, CEO Curtis McQueen said.

“It was a nice citation,” he said.

McQueen said the Native corporation has been making more of an effort to be involved with the Legislature.

The Legislature, too, has been making an effort to connect with Alaska Natives, McQueen said.

“I really see a fresh energy, a lot of enthusiasm today, wanting to get to know the cultures,” he said.

Owning more than 90,000 acres, Eklutna, Inc. is Anchorage’s largest private landowner and is soon to hold the same title in the Mat-Su borough, according to a press release.
