Loan wins record ninth tour
Eagle River’s Sheryl Loan wrapped up a record ninth Tour of Anchorage on Sunday, July 29, following the final race of the five-race bicycle series.
Loan finished fourth on the Kincaid Loop stage, 16 seconds behind winner Jenna App. But her performances in the four earlier stages gave her more than enough cushion over App, who finished 1:59 behind Loan in the overall standings to take second.
Loan’s daughter, Kinsey, finished fifth overall.
Loan won the first two stages of the Tour and three overall. The 53-year-old took a stranglehold on the overall lead during the Stage 2 Upper Potter Valley Hill Climb, which she won by nearly two minutes over her next closest pursuer.
Anchorage’s Daniel Follmar won the men’s Tour. Jason Lamoreaux was second.
