Aug. 9 edition 'useless'
The Aug. 9 Star was perhaps the most useless issue I have ever seen.
This emphasis on sports to the detriment of all other news is inexcusable. Education has taken such a back seat to sports in this country that the tail is now wagging the dog.
It is pathetic that professional players, even the ones who just warm the bench, are paid more than the professors who taught them.
Now that I have the attention of every outraged sports fan out there, let me ask you this: Did any of you notice on page 7, below the fold, an item about a shooting death near Thunderbird Falls on Aug. 8?
Is the death of a human being of less importance than 20 pages of sports hype?
Compared to the Aug. 2 issue, which had excellent coverage of the JBER air show and several other articles of local interest, Aug. 9 was just a fish-wrapper.
I hope that future issues of the Star will have a better balance of news of local interest.
