No injuries; CVFD puts out blaze
The Chugiak Volunteer Fire Department put out this truck fire on Aug. 20 near the North Birchwood exit on the Glenn Highway. A woman and four children escaped the pick-up just before it caught fire.

Anchorage Police said a Ford F-150 pick-up truck caught fire just after noon on Monday, Aug. 20 on the northbound Glenn Highway near the North Birchwood exit, briefly causing traffic to back up in that direction.

Officers on the scene said the driver reported a burning smell coming from the truck’s dashboard as she was driving. She pulled over to the side of the road and exited the truck as it began to smoke. KTUU-TV reported the woman was also able to safely get four children out of the vehicle before it became engulfed in flames.

Firefighters from the Chugiak Volunteer Fire Department arrived shortly after to extinguish the blaze.

By 12:45 p.m. traffic was moving normally in both directions.
