Plenty of thanks for Senior Walk
The Chugiak-Eagle River Senior Center would like to thank everyone who was involved in the Eagle River Walk for Seniors event. This event was a tremendous success! Everyone had a great time, and together we were able to raise over $9,500 to help local resident seniors in need. The Hiland Mountain Correctional Center hosted a carnival and walk, which raised more than $3,800! We’d like to thank the correctional center, as well as everyone who put forth their time and energy into raising donations to go toward the Senior Center’s Good Sam Fund.
Thank you to the First National Bank of Eagle River, who financially sponsored this event. Also, a great big thank you to Fred Meyer and Carr’s Quality Center for donating all the delicious food enjoyed at the post-walk barbecue.
We would also like to give a big thank you to the individuals who donated their time to this event. Thanks to Sen. Fred Dyson for showing his support for the center and our community; to Rep. Bill Stoltze, who was the master of ceremonies; to Mrs. Tifany Lund for singing a lovely rendition of the national anthem; to Rev. Gracie Jackson of Love INC., for saying an opening prayer; to Chief Morgan of the Chugiak Volunteer Fire Department for starting the walk; to D.J. Rock-N-Ron, for providing music, talent and equipment; and to Ariel Talen-Keller, Mrs. Alaska United America, for presenting the competition prizes.
Thanks as well to the following organizations who donated time to this event, including the Chugiak High NJROTC, which presented the colors; the CVFD, who served as medics; the Chugiak Key Club, who helped paint signs; and to the Eagle River Assembly Baptist Church, who volunteered at the barbecue.
We would also like to recognize the winners of the pledge prizes. Winner of the highest adult pledge was Sara Mitchell, who raised $1,300. The highest child pledge was Hudson Taylor, who raised $100. Alise Becker won the shoe drawing. The highest organizational pledge was Hiland Mountain Correctional Facility, which raised $3,899. Thanks to the family of artist George Rodgers, Major Marine Tours, Walmart and Tinker’s Rainforest Deli for donating prizes.
We would also like to put forward a great big thank you to every single member of our community who turned out to show support for our local seniors. Thanks to everyone for making this event such a success!
