Stand Therefore

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

— 1 Corinthians 15:58

Believers who will stand for Christ in this present day will have to walk in the reality that this stance may cost them everything and everyone that has held importance for them. The believer who will stand to the end must have the resolve and commitment to stand at all costs. That resolve will have to be unwavering. The temptation to set such a stance aside will come from those very things that were once held dear. Resistance from the enemy will require that the believer walk in the steadfastness of the Word and keep themselves from those things that will so tempt them. 1 Corinthians 15:58 states, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” It will take this type of resistance and resolve to stand until the end.

Walking in the reality of Christ is to walk with the only one worthy to be believed. It is only through a deep faith in Christ that the believer finds strength to face a cruel and challenging world. With the Lord all things are possible. It is through our walk and relationship with Him that we will find the ability to stand in faith.

True faith is measured by the investment of the believer. Faith and investment are action words. These actions are shown through preparedness in the Word and the productivity that comes from applying it in ones life.

To be prepared and productive, the believer will have to be committed to the study of the Word (II Tim. 2:15), be in continual prayer, (I Thess. 5:17), have fellowship with other believers (1 John 1:3), and have a resolve to continue in the faith (Heb. 4:14). This resolve will require the believer to be committed to Christ even in the greatest of difficulties.

Many churches today have fallen short in teaching the flock that persecution from the enemy is inevitable. That if the believer isn’t receiving persecution and resistance on every turn, he/she may not be truly walking in the truth. What the mass majority of believers don’t realize is that with difficulties and resistance there are always opportunities. They may come in the personal growth that comes with a storm or maybe a clearer place to serve the Kingdom. Growth doesn’t come without resistance.

The only true way to resist the enemy and stand to the end is to take the Word in its entirety and apply it in ones life. The truth of the gospel rightly discerned with the help of the Holy Spirit followed in faith, prayer and a close fellowship with Christ and other believers of like mind is the only sure way the believer has of standing until the day of the Lord. Those churches and believers that are blinded to this fact or refuse to follow it run the risk of falling away. If the believer will walk in the only true reality which is Christ and be resolved to stand against the resistance of the enemy no matter what, he/she will have all that is needed to make it through to the end.
