Dustin Holta, 15, earned the rank of Eagle Scout on Aug. 21.

Dustin began his scouting as a Tiger Cub in Pack 228 in Chugiak. Since joining Troop 28 in 2008, Dustin has earned 22 merit badges and has served as Troop Historian, Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader. He has performed community service for several organizations including Bean’s Café. Some of his favorite scouting memories include winter camping at Hatcher Pass, completing five 10-mile and one 24-mile hike to Upper Russian Lakes to earn his hiking merit badge and canoeing the 26-mile Swanson River system.

For his Eagle Scout project, with the help of his troop Dustin assembled and sold over 130 sand bags, then used the fundS to design and build a chair rack for St. Andrew Catholic Church in Eagle River.

Dustin is a sophomore at Chugiak High, where he is a member of the swim team, wrestling team and band. He is the son of Eric and Kristi Holta and brother of fellow Troop 28 Scout Tanner Holta of Peters Creek.
