Geskey leads ER swim/dive with pair of wins
ER boys, girls finish second
Julia Geskey won two individual events (200 free, 500 free) to lead Eagle River swimming/diving during a tri-meet against Dimond and Bartlett on Friday, Oct. 12.
Jami Stone (diving) had the only other first-place finish for Eagle River’s girls, which placed second to Dimond in the team standings. The Lynx scored 161 points followed by the Wolves with 99 and Bartlett with 54.
Dimond’s boys won with 175 points. Eagle River was second with 98 and Bartlett finished third with 20.
Chugiak sweeps tri-meet
Chugiak swept a tri-meet against West and East on Friday, Oct. 12.
The boys scored 128 points with East in second with 103 and West in third with 90. Chugiak’s girls scored 121 points to edge second-place West by one point. East was third with 81 points.
Sammy Burke (200 IM, 500 free) and Emmie Jennings (50 free, 100 fly) led Chugiak’s girls with a pair of individual victories. Kaitlin Friedli won the 1-meter diving competition for the Mustangs.
Jennings and Burke also teamed up with Abby Blackstone and Cierra Holtman to win the 200 and 400 free relays.
Grant Ensign (200 free), Jonah Hennings-Booth (200 IM), Shawn Fugere (diving) and Ethan Espe (100 fly) won individual events for Chugiak’s boys. The Mustangs also won all three boys relays.
Dimond 7, Eagle River 0
Cat Papasodora fired a perfect 100 in the prone position and 285 overall to lead Eagle River riflery, which lost 7-0 to Dimond on Friday, Oct. 12.
Brendon Lyon fired a 281 and Tristian Henderson shot a 279 for the Wolves.
South 4, Chugiak 3
Cole Criswell fired a 281 to lead all Chugiak shooters in a 4-3 loss to South on Oct. 11.
Dyson Hislop’s 278 led the Mustangs’ winning C team, which scored 1,050 points to South’s 1,012.
Emily Vannortwick also shot a 278 and Nick Bozzo fired a 279 for Chugiak’s B team.
South 3, Chugiak 1
South defeated Chugiak 3-1 (25-17, 25-13, 21-25, 27-25) in CIC volleyball action Friday, Oct. 12.
Sophomore Rachel Gregg led Chugiak with 11 kills and four blocks. Kara Haeussler recorded three aces and 14 digs for the Mustangs.
West 3, Eagle River 2
West edged Eagle River 3-2 (25-19, 15-25, 17-25, 25-10, 15-11) on Oct. 12.
Lucy Thomas led the Wolves’ defense with 20 digs. Gabbi LeCates powered the offense with 12 kills. She also had three blocks.
Morgen Wohrle had nine kills and 16 digs, and Tess Anderson furnished seven kills and 17 digs for Eagle River.
East downs Chugiak, Eagle River
Emily Romero (balance beam) and Alicia Reitz (floor exercise) turned in second-place performances for Chugiak’s gymnastic team, which finished second to East on Oct. 11.
The T-Birds scored 153.6 points to Chugiak’s 41.9. Eagle River was third with 20.05 points.
Kallan Johnson finished seventh all-around for the Wolves.
