Bonanza of bazaars
Need something to do this weekend? Forget Anchorage. Chugiak-Eagle River is the place to be.
Four bazaars will be held simultaneously Saturday, Nov. 3 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Chugiak-Eagle River Senior Center, Chugiak Elementary, River of Life Lutheran Church and St. John Orthodox Cathedral.
While vendors will be at each bazaar, all four locations have something unique to offer, said Senior Center fundraising coordinator Linda Miller.
“We’re all doing different things,” she said.
At the Senior Center, local kids will be displaying their talents, Miller said. Acts include the Eagle River Panthers’ Pop Warner cheerleaders; piano recitals from 10 of Emily Foreman’s students; a performance by Ravenwood Elementary’s choir; a performance by Chugiak High’s choir; demonstrations from Alaska Moving Arts Center dancers and martial arts students; and performances from the Alaska Fine Arts Academy including piano, guitar, violin, viola, cello and singing.
Santa Claus is also dropping by from noon until 2 p.m., Miller said.
Delicious goodies, including homemade cookies and pies, will be on sale, she said.
At Chugiak Elementary, people can get into the holiday spirit with carriage rides offered by The Horse-Drawn Carriage Company, Miller said.
The items at River of Life Lutheran Church are anything but manufactured. All the goods, such as breads, sweets and crafts are handmade, Miller said.
“They’re all about the homemade there,” she said.
St. John Orthodox Cathedrals’ bazaar will include a silent auction, cake walk, petting zoo and face painting, Miller said.
“This is their one big fundraiser,” she said.
This marks the first year that all four organizations are hosting a bazaar on the same day, Miller said. Chugiak Elementary and the Senior Center typically host evens the same day, she said, but this year they reached out to the other groups.
“It just kind of happened,” Miller said. “It just created itself.”
Miller said she’s optimistic the multiple events will draw a large crowd.
“We have a lot to offer,” she said. “It should be fun.”
