CER 5, SAB 4
Autumn Sperry erupted for four goals as Chugiak-Eagle River defeated South-Bartlett 5-4 on Friday, Dec. 21 at the McDonald Center in Eagle River. SAB led 4-1 after one period, but the Wolves rallied for two goals in each of the final two periods.
Sperry tied things up on an unassisted strike with 9:50 to go in the third, then iced the game off a Madi Meyer helper with five minutes to go. Meyer added a second-period score for the Wolves, who got 21 saves from Arika Mercer.
Service-East 4, CER 1
Sperry scored the lone goal off a Maclane Hargraves assist in Chugiak-Eagle River’s 4-1 girls hockey loss to Service-East at the McDonald Center on Thursday, Dec. 20. The game was the final one for CER before the holiday break.
Eagle River 7, Bartlett 2
Brett Wood’s hat trick led Eagle River to a 7-2 CIC win over Bartlett on Friday night at the McDonald Center in Eagle River. George Platt added a pair of goals for Eagle River, which also got scores from Quinn Hulse and Carter Jesiel.
The Wolves outshot Bartlett 35-12 and improved to 4-5 in the CIC heading into the holiday break.
Wolves girls start 0-2
Eagle River’s girls hoops team opened its season 0-2 at the Lady T-Bird Classic at East High Dec. 20-21.
On Dec. 20, Kenai Central handed the Wolves a 40-15 setback. Dana Panfil led Eagle River with six points.
Eagle River nearly pulled off a big comeback in the second round, a 50-49 loss to Valdez that saw the Wolves rally from a 14-point deficit.
Panfil led the way with 13 points, six rebounds and three steals. Lauren Frost added 13 points for Eagle River, which also got 11 from Sam Coy.
