A familiar theft, suspicious burglary

A family on River Heights Loop in Eagle River told Anchorage police on Jan. 11 that a relative stole firearms and jewelry from their home. Police obtained an arrest warrant for Mallory McClure, 28, on charges of second-degree theft, police spokeswoman Dani Myren said.

In a separate incident on Jan. 15, a resident of Amonson Road in Chugiak told police he spotted what looked like a man holding a flashlight near the back door of a neighbor’s home. It didn’t appear anything was taken from the home but a door was open, Myren said.

DV assault report

Anchorage police said they responded to an Eagle River residence around 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 10 for an assault report. They arrested a 39-year-old Eagle River woman for domestic violence assault after discovering she struck a family member, police said.

DUI arrests

Anchorage police said they arrested Kenneth Laird, 23, of Anchorage for driving under the influence on Jan. 10 after stopping him around 12:30 a.m. on Farm Avenue and the Old Glenn Highway. Laird’s breach alcohol level was below the legal limit but he failed field sobriety tests, police spokeswoman Dani Myren said.

Other DUI arrests, according to police:

James Gardner, 54, of Chugiak on Jan. 11 after being stopped for speeding and swerving just after 7 p.m. on Fish Hatchery Road and the Old Glenn Highway. Gardner’s breath alcohol level was one and a half times the legal limit. He was taken to Anchorage Jail on $500 bail. Another man in Laird’s vehicle, Jeffery Griffiths, 49, of Chugiak was arrested on a $5,000 felony warrant.

Charges are merely accusations; defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty at trial or until a plea of guilty is accepted by the courts.
