Bear Paw theme announced
You can’t have a Bear Paw Festival without a theme, and this year’s is sure to bring out the inner cowboy and cowgirl in local fans of the annual community hoedown.
Chugiak-Eagle River Chamber special events coordinator Merry Braham said this year’s theme will be “Round Up at the Bear Paw Corral,” a choice she said hopes will “spur” some western-inspired floats in the popular midsummer parade.
“It’s really all about fun,” Braham said.
This year’s logo, which features the festival’s cuddly bear mascot dressed in a cowboy hat and sporting a moustache, was designed by Eagle River’s own Stephanie Johnson, who also designed last year’s logo.
Braham said picking a theme and logo is one of the first steps necessary for planning the big event, which will be held July 10-14 in downtown Eagle River.
“For the people who do the parade, and for us to order pens, t-shirts…you can’t do any of that without a theme,” she said.
Braham said she’s already trying out some of her best cowboy quips in anticipation of the festival.
“Grab your saddles,” she said.
