Let it snow!
Ok, so the big snowfall we got recently might have come as a springtime surprise, but let’s think positive…
Although April is already upon us, we should feel fortunate to still have groomed cross country ski trails to play on, sledding hills to enjoy and at least a few more days of snowmachine season remaining. After all, if what climate scientists tell us is true, there’s a good chance many of these activities could soon be limited to just a few days each year.
In all seriousness, however, the recent snow dump was a good reminder that we still live in a place where winter weather is something to embrace rather than curse. The next time you hit the ski slopes at Alyeska — which you’ll be able to do for at least another month or more — be thankful you’re lucky enough to live in the kind of place that offers such wonderful opportunities for winter recreation. Snowfall is one of the big reasons many of us choose to live in Alaska, so we shouldn’t be too bummed out about the fact that the snowy weather is pushing into spring.
And for those of you out there who can’t wait for breakup — don’t worry, your time is coming. At last check, our daylight hours had surpassed 13 per day. That means spring (even if it doesn’t seem like it) is coming fast and furious.
And that’s snow joke.
